Nurse Practitioners

Sister Trish Briggs (f)
Sister Briggs has been an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
at the Practice since February 2010. Some of you may remember her as a Practice
Nurse at the Mauldeth Road site from 1984 to 2002. The role complements the GP role by improving emergency access to clinical services at the Practice.
She is a Registered General Nurse and holds a Diploma in Nursing studies demonstrating extensive studying whilst continuing hands on nursing. In addition she graduated from Bolton University in 2008 with a Masters degree in Advanced Practice. As such she is able to take a history, carry out a clinical assessment, organise tests and make a diagnosis. As an independent nurse prescriber she is able to prescribe in the same way a GP does.
The reception staff have a list of conditions Sr. Briggs can deal with so when you phone for an emergency appointment and want to see a GP on the same day you may be given an appointment with the ANP instead. It is, therefore, helpful if you can give a reason for the appointment request. You will also be asked for a valid contact number as the ANP may want to call you for more information. You can also ask for a phone call for advice about your symptoms or treatment.
You can still chose to see the GP if you wish to but, in an emergency, your own GP may not be available.

Jo graduated from Salford University in 2006 and has a BSc(Hons) degree in Adult Nursing. She worked for one year on a surgical ward at Royal Bolton Hospital looking after patients pre and post surgery.
