Policy on school requests for CAMHS and other referrals
We are receiving an increasing number of requests from parents / guardians who have been asked by their child’s school to seek a referral to services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and CAMHS.
In many cases, schools and education providers are able to make these referrals directly, as they can include detailed assessments and observations from the educational setting. This often helps ensure the referral is accepted without unnecessary delays.
If the school would prefer the GP practice to make the referral, we’re very happy to help. We kindly ask that the school provides a letter outlining their concerns, the reason for referral, and any relevant assessments. It is also helpful if they can explain why they are unable to refer directly.
Of course, if you have any concerns about your child’s health or development, please don’t hesitate to contact us to arrange an appointment.
