Get test results
You can see most test results in the NHS App, or ask us about them online or by phone.
See your results in the NHS App
If you are 16 or over, you can see your test results in the NHS App (opens the NHS website) or on the NHS website, any time.
You might see a result before a doctor has looked at it. A doctor checks every result. If we need to talk to you about it, we will contact you.
Results from before 2023 may not show in the app. Ask us if you need to see older results.
Ask us about your results
If you cannot use the NHS App, or you want to know what a doctor said about your result:
Ask for your test results onlineTell us how you would like us to reply, for example by text. We will reply by text or email, or call you if we need to.
You can also call us on 0161 448 4500 after 11am, Monday to Friday. Our receptionists can tell you what the doctor has said about your result. Calling after 11am keeps the phone lines free in the morning for people who need help urgently.
How long results take
How long a result takes to come back depends on the test. Once a result reaches us, a doctor looks at it within 2 working days.
Some results need to be looked at by the doctor who asked for the test. Another doctor checks them first to make sure nothing urgent is missed. If the result is not urgent, it may wait until your doctor is next at work.
If you have not heard about a result after this time, ask us online.
Results from hospital tests
If a hospital did your test, the hospital team will usually tell you the result. We only see it if the hospital sends it to us. If you have not heard, contact the hospital department that did the test.
Results for someone else
We can only give results to the patient, unless they have given us permission to share them with someone else. Find out how to access health services for someone else.
