Zero tolerance policy

Everyone at our surgery has the right to be treated with respect. We do not accept violence, abuse or harassment towards our staff or patients.

Behaviour we do not accept

  • violence, or threatening to hurt someone
  • shouting, swearing or verbal abuse
  • comments that are racist, sexist, homophobic, biphobic, transphobic or ageist, or about someone's disability, religion or belief, pregnancy, or marriage or civil partnership
  • harassment, including unwanted or offensive remarks
  • carrying a weapon, or using an object as a weapon
  • damaging our building or property

This applies in person, on the phone, online and in messages. It applies to our staff too.

What happens

  • If you are violent, threaten anyone, or damage our property in a way that makes someone fear for their safety, we will remove you from our list straight away, without a warning. We will report it to the police.
  • For other behaviour on this page, we will warn you in writing. If it happens again, we may remove you from our list, giving you 7 days' notice.
  • Rarely, we may also remove other members of your household, for example if visiting your home would put our staff at risk.

If we remove you because of violence, you can still get NHS GP care through a special service for patients removed for this reason.

If you are worried about how you were treated

If you think a member of our staff, or another patient, has treated you unfairly, tell us or make a complaint.
